About the Register

The doula register is a professional body that organizes and publishes the service rules for competent, safe doula services. Doulas who are registered with us have completed at least a basic course of doula training, and must declare to follow the register’s rules and codes in their work as doulas. As registered doulas follow these set standards the role of each doula is clearly visible. Registered doulas can therefore be confidently suggested to birthing clients by hospitals, birth centers, obstetricians and midwives.

The doula register is run by a non-profit birthing organization whose members are elected to office. The organization convenes a special team to review doula practices whenever necessary. The team is composed of a minimum of three experienced doulas, one midwife and one obstetrician. Doulas who do not work within the guidelines of the register undergo a professional supervision process by the doula team which may lead to a change of the doula’s practice or exclusion from the register.
