The Role of the Doula Register
The registering body……
- Provides training courses for doulas, midwives and doctors.
- Accredits and endorses training courses for doulas
- Provides advanced training opportunities for experienced doulas.
- Provides on-going training opportunities to help doulas maintain their skills and knowledge.
- Assesses the competence of doulas undergoing training.
- Answers questions from the public and from hospitals about registered doulas.
- When a doula's work is brought into question, the registering body convenes a panel of experts to review and evaluate the conduct of the doula in question.
- When a doula's work is found to be inappropriate or negligent, the panel elected by the registering body devise suitable strategies leading to either of the three outcomes listed below
- Re-training
- Suspension while re-training
- Permanent removal from the doula register.
