The Role of the Doula Register

The registering body……

  • Provides training courses for doulas, midwives and doctors.
  • Accredits and endorses training courses for doulas
  • Provides advanced training opportunities for experienced doulas.
  • Provides on-going training opportunities to help doulas maintain their skills and knowledge.
  • Assesses the competence of doulas undergoing training.
  • Answers questions from the public and from hospitals about registered doulas.
  • When a doula's work is brought into question, the registering body convenes a panel of experts to review and evaluate the conduct of the doula in question.
  • When a doula's work is found to be inappropriate or negligent, the panel elected by the registering body devise suitable strategies leading to either of the three outcomes listed below
  1. Re-training
  2. Suspension while re-training
  3. Permanent removal from the doula register.
